Percentages are everywhere in daily life — shopping discounts, exam results, tax calculations, salary increases and profit/loss calculations. Our free percentage calculator handles all these instantly.

What is a Percentage?

A percentage is a number expressed as a fraction of 100. The symbol % means "per hundred."

Example: 75% means 75 out of every 100.

How to Calculate Percentage — 3 Methods

Method 1: Find X% of a Number

Formula: Result = (Percentage / 100) × Number

Example: What is 18% of 50,000? = (18 / 100) × 50,000 = 9,000

Use this for: GST, VAT, discount amounts, commission

Method 2: What Percentage is A of B?

Formula: Percentage = (A / B) × 100

Example: What percentage is 450 out of 600? = (450 / 600) × 100 = 75%

Use this for: Exam marks, completion rates, market share

Method 3: Percentage Change

Formula: Change% = ((New - Old) / Old) × 100

Example: Price changed from 1,000 to 1,200 = ((1,200 - 1,000) / 1,000) × 100 = 20% increase

Use this for: Salary increase, price change, profit/loss
